Dovehouse Dance Ballroom
ANNOUNCEMENT: our studio coordinator is Daniel Greenstein.
History of the Organization:
Founders Yvonne Ng, Karen Kaeja, Rebecca Todd and Eryn Dace Trudell originated the DoveHouse Dance Ballroom to provide a home for their respective companies - princess productions, Kaeja d'Dance and Offshoots - while offering affordable space to the community at large, with an emphasis on dance creation. Through the assistance of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, renovations were made in the space to meet rehearsal needs. The DoveHouse Dance Ballroom aims to help foster new dance creations in Toronto. Pricess Productions and Kaeja d'Dance remain the sole collective members.
Artistic Statement:
The DoveHouse Dance Ballroom now provides a solid home for princess productions and Kaeja d'Dance. In providing a central arena for dance activity in the community, the DoveHouse Dance Ballroom seeks to become more than the sum of its parts, by programming activities in The Ballroom that enrich the fertile soil of Toronto's creative dance community.
The DoveHouse Dance Ballroom is accessible to the dance community: Committed to keeping our rehearsal rates low, and to offering time and space in the schedule for independent teaching and workshops and The Ballroom is a popular venue for fundraisers for artists. Other arts and related activities are always welcome to rent this gorgeous and easily accessible space.
In the future we hope to expand our role and level of programming to include professional development for dancers by running workshops for the dance community, which will be sponsored by DoveHouse Dance Ballroom. It is our hope that one day, with invited master teachers, other recognized senior artists, and dance producers, we can offer a full range of programming and further to that, a performance series. Through our current activities we hope to encourage the dance community to improve, grow, and to support each other in all our artistic endeavors and development.
Dovehouse Ballroom is available for rehearsals, workshops, performances and special events. Special packages and rates available. Please contact the Studio Coordinator.
